The dry, cold winter months are upon us. Now is the time to replenish, restore and rebuild your hair to protect it from the climate change. We’ve rallied up a few tips on how to moisturize, protect and get your hair healthy and strong for the Winter months.
Deep Condition. Cold dry air sucks moisture right out of your hair. The best way to replenish lost moisture is to deep condition weekly with heat for approximately 25-30 minutes. Keeping up with your deep conditioning will improve the overall health of your hair. Over time, your hair will flourish and withstand the harsh weather.
Hot Oil Treatments. Massaging your scalp is an excellent way to stimulate the blood to increase circulation and promote more hair growth. It also helps to detox the scalp of any impurities that may inhibit growth. Use an oil of your choice and massage your scalp with it 2-3 times per week. For extra benefits and better absorption, warm the oil and bring the oils from the scalp through the length of the hair for a hot oil treatment. Leave in the hair for 15-20 minutes.
Protect Your Hair. Constant contact with coats and heavy fabrics can cause unnecessary dryness and breakage. Protect your hair by pulling it up or wearing it off of your shoulders in a low pony, a braid or a bun. Protective styles prevent the hair from drying out and being exposed to cold temperatures and will also support length retention.
Keep Your Ends Moist. Ends tend to suffer the most when hair is exposed to harsh weather. Make sure to moisturize your ends first and then work your hair up the hair shaft. Use a water based moisturizer every one to two days to fight dryness and prevent breakage.
Take Your Vitamins. Nourish your hair from the inside out. Remember to take a multi-vitamin daily for optimal health and eat a well balanced diet for proper nutrition. Make sure your vitamins have a healthy dose of B-Complex, Iron, Calcium, Vitamin D and Omega 3′s. Check out our blog post on Foods that make your hair healthy for more tips!
